DD#001: Approaching Digital Maturity?

Hello from Xonetic and welcome to our newsletter ‘Digital Drum’. We thought it would be informative and beneficial to our customers and associates if we were to produce a regular newsletter to keep you up to date on company activities, the latest changes in digital technology, the standards that support IT best practice, as well as our musings on wider digital trends and their potential impact on business.

We hope you find this useful and if you have any comments, feedback, questions, or suggestions for topics you would like to see covered in future bulletins please let us know. Our doors (both actual and virtual) are always open.

As a contributing author of the Business Technology (BT) Standard and founder of Xonetic I am passionate about digital technology and the transformative results it can bring to businesses if it is deployed correctly. I strongly believe that IT is at the heart of every successful organisation. To that end I founded Xonetic to empower businesses to make the best use of their digital assets. The company champions digital ways of working and has a proven track record of helping organisations maximise their available IT assets. We are the sole UK implementer of the Business Technology Standard, in partnership with the Business Technology Forum.

Thanks,

Nick Russell, MD & Founder, Xonetic

What is Business Technology?

Developed in in co-operation with global enterprises and public sector organisations over the last 12 years, the BT Standard is now recognised as a leading best practice framework for businesses undertaking complex IT projects as part of their digital transformation. It provides in-house ICT teams with the guidance needed to overlay commonly deployed technology management frameworks, such as SAFe or DevOps, to develop a single, unified management model. The BT standard is used by a vast range of companies across all markets, particularly in the Nordic region.

The BT Standard, which is owned by the Business Technology Forum, has undergone many revisions since its creation in line with with digital innovations and technological advances. The latest version (v4.5) supports Business Technology governance as well as roles and responsibilities and operating model for data governance and management.

A part of our core aim to introduce our network to the power of the Business Technology Standard, we are running, we are offering a free introductory virtual workshop to Business Technology on the 14th September at 1pm (UK). If you are interested in attending please register on LinkedIn (we have >80 people already signed up already!)

Our Collaboration with UCISA

We’re currently working in partnership with UCISA to accelerate the adoption of the Business Technology Standard by universities in the UK and Ireland.

UCISA, a professional body for digital practitioners in the education sector have been running monthly Community of Practice events where we have been explaining to UCISA members how the BT Standard empowers organisations to maximise their IT assets. This has been well received, with King’s College London being one of its early adopters.

Over the last two years we have been assisting King’s College London with the implementation of the Business Technology Standard to provide a comprehensive approach to the IT lifecycle, supporting students, researchers, and staff.

On the back of this we have been asked to run a Business Technology Maturity Assessment with over ten universities (& counting).

Coach & Facilitator

ELENA VAN LEEMPUT

I like my work best when I can motivate and help other people. I constantly strive for excellence in everything I do and I’m open to different ideas that challenge my views. I believe in constant change which drives my innovative mindset. My background is both in technology and business with more than 15 years’ experience ranging from demand, development to service management. I enjoy taking initiative and carry out new ventures.

I try to keep things simple and bring my skills when I coach and facilitate to inspire people and help them innovate. I’m passionate about all forms of facilitation and coaching be it face-to-face or virtual facilitation. I also enjoy creating different e-learning training, holding innovation workshops and design thinking hackathons.

I also find it very important to nurture my creative side along the way (visual arts: photography, sketching, videography and all areas of design) through both my work and hobbies – which I’m happy to say I get to do often enough.

Coach & Facilitator

THOMAS HUGHES

I work as coach and facilitator in the Business Technology Academy. My focus is business simulation games such as the DevOps simulation. I consider myself a full-stack Business Technology professional of sorts. During the past 20+ years, I’ve worked in wide range of various IT and business management roles in and with organizations ranging from global enterprises to startups in a variety of industries.

I enjoy looking for new perspectives to phenomena and challenging myself and others to continuously develop ourselves and to expand our thinking. Being in the discomfort zone is the way to grow. As a coach I like to cross breed theoretical frameworks, practical examples, illuminating stories and humour. I see simulation games as a perfect way to combine these into an engaging and fun day.

I enjoy exploring life through various projects and experiments. Some of these involve focused self-development both physically and mentally, while others focus more on creative aspirations related to areas like photography, writing and digital media.
